CLASSE II B European Union

After World War II, many European countries wanted to work together to maintain peace. The result was the European Union. In fact Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands signed a trade agreement called the ‘Treaty of Rome’. This was the start of European Union in 1957. Today the European Union is a group of 28 European countries. The flag of the European Union is blue with twelve yellow stars in a circle. The Eurozone is a group of 17 European countries that use the euro as their money and it is created in 2002. The United Kingdom is a part of the EEC, but it isn’t in the Eurozone because it doesn’t use the euro. The first countries in the European Union were: Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Brussels is the capital of the EU and the home of the European Parliament that makes laws for Europe.
